Choosing the best baby baptism gifts

Barring the usual stuff such as bibles, jewellery and photo frames (which are covered in more detail on other sections of the website), let’s look at some of the less usual gifts which you can consider as a baby baptism gift.

Christening Gown   This is a great baby baptsim gift, and usually bought by someone that has a close relationship to the baby. You will obviously need to consult with the parents first before going ahead with a purchase.   This is necessary because you’ll need the baby’s size measurements and also need to prevent someone else from buying a gown.   Christening gowns come in a variety of different sizes, styles and colors, but the most popular is white or pearl.

Baby Blanket

Extremely popular, it’s not uncommon to find multiple blankets from different guests. It’s an easy gift to personalize and come in a range of different colors, materials and design options. If you want to go for some more ‘adventurous’ than a blanket, consider bedding for the baby. Normally these are available in standard crib sizes and are produced in a range of different colors, designs and patterns. 

Moses baskets   This is a baby baptism gift with a distinct Christian element which enhances the meaning of the baptism. Moses baskets are a functional gift that parents can use for many, many months.   The measurement is generally standard with 30 inches by 12 inches and a depth of 9 inches. The materials are either a strong maize or wicker with canopy drapes and pillows.

Video

A Really special gift is to hire a videographer to film the whole baptism event from preparation stage right through to the celebration afterwards. The production can include commentary from his/her parents, family and friends. This will be something cherished for the rest of their lives.  

Teddy Bear   A baby baptism gift so often overlooked, but something that can be a child’s greatest companion for many years. Teddy bears come in different sizes and colors.   It’s worthwhile to venture to the ‘unknown’ and break away from the traditional blue and pink teddy bears for boys and girls respectively.

Baptism Book

Dianne Ahern wrote a great book entitled, 'Today I was Baptized'. It's a story of an infant's baptism and has brief essays about the atonement of baptism, origin and traditions. There is also room in the book for parents to note the story of their baby's baptism. A perfect gift for the baby!

Baptism Keepsake Box

Another charming gift is a baptism keepsake box, which is able to hold photo albums, papers, books, baby cloths and many other things related to the christening. Normally these boxes are made of fiber board which is acid free. This insures that anything which comes in contact with the box does not get damaged. A Great little box of memories!

Savings Bond

Admittedly this is a very practical gift with little sentimental value. However, it’s a great way to contribute directly to the baby’s future well being by depositing money in a Savings Bond. Be sure however to check that the maturity dates aren’t too long, as some saving bonds go as high as 30 years before the beneficiary can access the money.

Baptism gifts for babies can be either purely sentimental or practical. Perhaps even both. Key to remember is that the baby won’t appreciate the benefits of the gift straight away, so always think long term of something that can bring them value over many years.
